2022 Update
The Greenhouse Shuffle!
There are two things we always seem to be short of at the Prairie Pedlar – time and space! Truly, there is never enough time at the garden and we wish we could slow down both the clock and the calendar. We miss plenty of stunning flower blossoms as they unfold on a daily basis. There are unexpected new bird nests in delightful places and dazzling sunsets at the end of each day. We are mindful of the miracles and blessings that surround us and are grateful that we can witness them at every pause. Our calendar is a flurry of activity from the time we drop the first bag of soil into a pot in March until the last wedding celebration winds down in the fall. It is our hope that we don’t miss the little things in life as the big calendar of events pass by!
Being short on space is a blessing in disguise! It means we’re still growing! Yes, we should have had a master plan when we laid out the garden, greenhouses and wedding areas, but twenty-seven years ago when we relocated to the current corner in Cook Township, ten acres seemed like more than enough room on which to build a business. Today the acreage lines have been redrawn and the property is divided into two separate businesses. The expansion of Janna’s wholesale venture has been swift and impressive. With their home on the north side of the acreage, they needed more space for plant production and that called for a greenhouse shuffle! A small existing greenhouse has been relocated into my display area between the gift shop and the geranium house, and Janna has erected a new, larger greenhouse that lines up with her operation. The extremely warm November weather cooperated nicely and much of that work was completed before temps dipped very low.
A lack of time and shortness of space are challenges we embrace. Change is good and we are anxious to share the new look and shuffle with you when you visit in 2022!
